De Montfort University, Leicester (DMU) is an ambitious sports institution which provides an array of sporting opportunities for all our students.
Since the last DMUsport update in December 2020, England has entered into a National lockdown with the advice to Stay at Home.
As a result, DMUactive are unable to deliver face-to-face sport activity until at least mid-February. There is no certain date when restrictions will be lifted, and all sport and leisure indoor and outdoor facilities are closed.
In the meantime, we want to continue to help the DMU community to stay active and look after their wellbeing so have developed a virtual offer that is open to all DMU staff and students. You can take a look at what is on offer on our DMUactive page.
If you have any questions regarding this please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
DMU enters clubs into local league, British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) and individual competitions. Our clubs have a dedicated sports coach and some have strength and conditioning support to help them reach their goals in training and competition.
We enter a variety of teams into local league competitions, this is a competitive option for teams that wish to take part in competition but maybe cannot commit to BUCS league competitions every Wednesday or find the BUCS leagues too competitive.
With local leagues, there is the opportunity to travel home and away whilst representing DMU and your sport.
British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS)
BUCS is the national governing body for Higher Education Sport. They deliver over 50 sports (everything from archery to ultimate frisbee) comprising of a busy league programme and championship events.
DMU have over 40 teams competing in BUCS leagues on Wednesday afternoons and Sundays, where clubs have the opportunity to travel home and away, representing DMU and their club. During Welcome Week there is the opportunity to sign up to clubs and attend trials and tasters in order to be available for selection to teams. However, if you've missed this or want to know more information in advance of Welcome Week please contact the club directly.
You can see a list of DMU Sports clubs here.
BUCS events normally take place at weekends throughout the academic year across a variety of sports. A full calendar of events can be found here: https://www.bucs.org.uk/events-listing.html. To request entry into these events please contact the DMUsport performance team on the email below.
If you play a sport, where DMU do not have a sports club, but wish to be entered into the appropriate BUCS competition, please get in touch with the BUCS performance team on the email address below.
For all BUCS enquiries please email: email@example.com.
For those sports that are not a part of the BUCS programme, nor is there an appropriate local league for them to get involved in with, DMUsport work with the club members and coaches wherever possible to identify the best competitive opportunities for them.
Across the variety of sports we support, this can either be Regional or National level competitions, a series of events or one-off competitions, and provide opportunities for those competing their very first time right up to elite level.
Strength and conditioning
DMU has a team of dedicated strength and conditioning coaches based at The Watershed, where we have a exclusive multipurpose strength and conditioning suite. They work with our DMU sports teams to develop fitness and strength to boost their performances in training and competition and also work on a one to one basis with all of our DMU Sport Scholars.
