DMUactive is a free weekly recreational sport and fitness programme that runs throughout the academic year and is open to all staff and students at DMU. The programme creates an inclusive environment that is free from commitment for those who want to exercise, keep fit, play sport and look after their wellbeing. Whether you regularly participate in sport / fitness activity or have never taken part before, our sessions cater for all abilities.

What sessions are available?

DMUactive Virtual Timetable

Over the last year we have had to adapt our offer due to lockdowns, but to help you stay active we have developed a virtual timetable in partnership with DMU Leisure. Similar to our regular weekly timetable, our virtual weekly timetable will consist of a range of free live sessions that all DMU staff and students can get involved with. Take a look at what sessions you can get involved with on the current DMUactive virtual timetable.

For the live virtual sessions, you don’t have to sign up to a session. Just click onto one of the following links and enjoy!

 Fitness Session

All sessions can be carried out within the comfort of your own home, but please be aware of your surroundings and make sure you have enough room to safely partake in any of the sessions delivered. Please also remember to warm up and stretch before taking part in any of our live sessions to help prevent injury!

Unsure of what a session is? Take a look at the session descriptions to find out more information and what the session will cover.

Through the #KeepDMUactive initiative, that was launched during the first national lockdown, we will be providing DMU staff and students with free workout videos that you can do when best works for you. From Pilates to Zumba to fitness home workouts, there will be something for everyone! Take a look at the #KeepDMUactive playlist.

Free Guided Walk/Run Routes

Discovering Britain is a fantastic free resource that you can use to access a range of local guided walks, whether you are in Leicester or somewhere else in Britain! If you would prefer to take part in higher intensity activity, try running the routes. Please abide by the current social distancing regulations.

How to with DMUactive

The ‘How to with DMUactive’ initiative has the aim of helping participants to develop their skills / knowledge of a particular activity and encourage them to keep active whilst we are unable to deliver face to face sessions. From how to do a chest pass to how to hold a badminton racket, our DMUactive and Social League activators will be creating content that you can easily follow. Take a look at our ‘How to with DMUactive’ playlist on YouTube.

The Jiu-Jitsu & Self-Defence club have also got involved with this initiative and have created some useful videos taking you through how to do a range of actions. From how to do a basic martial arts stance to how to do a handstand, the club have got you covered, and they welcome all beginners to take part. You can view the videos on the Jiu-Jitsu & Self-Defence club page.
