De Montfort University (DMU) has a history of providing distance learning qualifications within a range of programmes to choose from. Our diverse community consists of students located in over 85 countries. We are continuing to develop more programmes and if you would like to receive updates, please register your interest.

Distance Learning is a flexible way to study for a qualification. It allows you to fit your learning in around your lifestyle and other commitments, but still achieve the same qualifications as you would by doing traditional campus-based study. You can study at your own pace and in a place that’s convenient for you, whether it’s at home, on your commute, where you work or anywhere else you feel inspired. You’ll have access to an extensive range of online learning materials, as well as benefit from academic support.

Why study a Distance Learning course?

"After a discussion with the programme leader and researching the course content, I felt that the course was a good fit with my job role. Support from the lecturers has been excellent. They have been responsive and helpful. The content learnt can be easily applied to my role."

Jatinder Sanghera, Youth Work and Community Development MA Student

How does Distance Learning work?

When you study a distance learning course at DMU, the majority of your learning will take place online, so you won’t need to travel or attend traditional face-to-face lectures or tutorials.

You’ll have access to a range of useful online learning materials that have been created specifically for students working remotely and during their own time. These materials typically include a combination of engaging online lectures, activities related to your chosen course, and carefully selected reading materials. For most courses, all you’ll need is a computer and an internet connection to carry out your studies.

Throughout your course you’ll be supported by academic and personal tutors, who are there to offer guidance, mark your assignments and give you an extra helping hand whenever you need it. You’ll be able to contact your tutor via email and phone. As well as that, you’ll have access to a full range of student support services such as our award-winning careers and employability service and our health and wellbeing hub, Healthy DMU.
