Public Engagement at DMU supports students, staff, and partners through a range of initiatives that make a difference, locally and globally. All our projects are delivered through the collaboration of the team, DMU students and staff, and community partners in Leicester and beyond, to make a positive impact on peoples’ lives.
DMU Local is our community impact and engagement programme. Students contribute thousands of hours a year – giving up their time and working with local partners either as part of academic modules or as volunteers – engaging with the city they live, study and work in. Through our international outreach activity, there are opportunities to support local community activity in a global context, with specific projects in India, Thailand, and across Europe.
The work of our widening participation programme supports young people to engage with DMU and university life in general. The team delivers a range of projects from primary school through to A level study, holding events and activities in school and on campus, to help decision making about going to university.
We work with DMU staff to increase involvement in and understanding of public engagement. Through best practice and real-life examples, we help to embed applied learning, share ideas on quality delivery, and create communities of practice and discussion to support high-impact engagement.
