January 2022 graduation ceremonies

We are pleased to announce that our graduates from the July 2020 graduation ceremonies, which regrettably had to be postponed, will be invited to their graduation ceremony in January 2022 and that students who have completed since 15 July 2021 and before 26 November 2021 will be invited to their ceremony in January 2022 that will take place in spectacular style at the award-winning Curve Theatre in Leicester in the heart of the city’s vibrant Cultural Quarter*. The theatre is home to an inspiring and diverse programme of musicals, plays, dance and opera and will be transformed into a stunning graduation venue. We have taken the decision to relocate ceremonies so that the teaching timetable is not impacted by large scale events on campus. We have held our graduation ceremonies at the Curve Theatre in previous years and we know our students will have the most amazing day of celebration.

Graduations update

Following careful consideration, we have decided to continue with our planned January graduation ceremonies. This decision comes after detailed discussion and risk assessments of the events. We continue to closely follow UK government and local public health guidance to protect the safety of our visitors, staff and students.

Our ceremonies are a time for celebration and we want to ensure that those graduating are able to do so safely. As a result, we are taking all necessary precautions, including:

  • Face coverings – all staff, students and guests attending the ceremonies must wear a face covering at all times unless a person has a legitimate exemption (stickers will be provided if desired to those who are exempt). Graduands are able to remove face coverings while crossing the stage and for photography only.
  • Lateral flow testing – we are strongly encouraging graduands and their guests to take lateral flow tests prior to attending their ceremony, only attending if the result is negative.
  • Cleaning and ventilation – Curve Theatre is deep cleaned every morning and between each show/event and there is enhanced spot cleaning and sanitisation throughout the day. In addition, all areas are treated with antiviral mist. The air handling system has also been optimised to provide cool fresh air throughout all of the performance spaces to ensure the building remains well ventilated. All fans are regulated to increase fan speed in proportion to the amount of CO2 in the air which results in cleaner and fresher air being delivered into the auditorium during the day’s events.

We will, of course, continue to assess the risk involved in hosting the ceremonies and will carefully monitor any change in government guidance. In the case of further changes to our ceremonies, all of those attending will be contacted at the earliest possible opportunity. Updates will also be added to our website and FAQs.

We continue to advise graduating students not to make any non-refundable travel or accommodation bookings, with government Covid-19 restrictions and advice still subject to change.

We look forward to celebrating our long-awaited ceremonies with the Class of 2020 and Class of 2022 in spectacular style at the award-winning Curve Theatre.

Check January 2022 schedule and book tickets

Our booking system will open at 12 noon on 2 November and close at 11pm on 21 November 2021 and you will receive an invitation giving full details of how to book your place at your graduation ceremony. Invites will be sent via email and we will release further details through all of our usual communications channels, so please make sure you check in with our student webpages and social media channels regularly. More information can be found on our tickets page.

Please note: We anticipate ceremonies to sell out very quickly. We strongly encourage all students to book their tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Please do not make any travel or accommodation arrangements at this stage until you have received your confirmation of booking email from the Awards Team at the university.

We also want to reassure our previous graduates from January 2021 graduation ceremonies that you are not forgotten. We are now working on planning how we can give you an amazing in-person experience too and will let you know our plans as soon as we can.

Issuing of degree certificates

Please be aware that the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted on our normal production of degree certificates. Staff have partially returned to an adapted working environment with reduced capacity, this unfortunately will delay our standard turnaround times for printing certificates.

The majority of certificates for awards conferred prior to July 2021 have been posted. We are now starting the production and issuing of certificates for Awards conferred from August onwards and these will be posted once produced; unfortunately we cannot give specific timescales.

Certificates will be posted to your permanent home address held on your student record.  If you no longer have access to this record via MYDMU and believe that your permanent address has changed please email academicawards@dmu.ac.uk. Please ensure that you state your PNumber, name and course.

Please note that we cannot offer a collection service in person.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

*January ceremonies will take place subject to prevailing UK Government national and/or local guidance in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic and large scale indoor events and our assessment of risk regarding the safety of the DMU graduation community. As such we recommend that you do not make any non-refundable travel or accommodation bookings and respectfully remind our students and guests of their responsibility for all bookings made in these circumstances.

If the university’s graduation ceremonies are postponed due to Covid-19 we will notify all graduands as soon as feasibly possible and will keep all social media channels regularly updated.
