Take part in this year's LOROS 10k charity walk – participants and volunteers wanted

The popular LOROS Twilight Walk returns this June, giving students the opportunity to get active, explore Leicester in a fun way and raise funds for a great local cause.

Taking place on Saturday 20 June, the Twilight Walk is a 10km walk that starts from DMU’s Vijay Patel Building and takes walkers through the heart of the city, up to Victoria Park, before returning to the university’s campus.

LOROS Twilight Walk for 2026

Hundreds of people take part each year, so it’s a great chance for students to make new friends in a positive environment and give back to the city they live in.

This year, LOROS is encouraging walkers to sparkle by accessorising themselves with as much glitter and colour as possible.

Mill Lane, on campus, will come alive with a main stage, live music, entertainment, as well as food and drink vendors before the walk starts.

Everyone taking part will receive an event t-shirt and a medal once they cross the finish line back on campus.

Interested in taking part?

If you’re looking to take part, LOROS would like participants to raise at least £55 to support the charity and raise much-needed funds for the care they provide.

You will need to book your place on LOROS’s website, which costs £20.

The party starts from 5.30pm, with the walk starting from 7pm.

Want to get involved but don’t fancy the walk?

Don’t worry, you can join other students by signing up to be a volunteer on My Gateway.

Opportunities include:

  • Route marshals along the 10km route, guiding walkers along

  • Event village volunteers to welcome walkers and assist at merchandising stands

  • Cheer stations to encourage walkers

  • Tech assistants to support with staging

  • Children’s activities within the event village to help run games or crafts for families

Who are LOROS?

LOROS is a Leicestershire-based charity that delivers free, quality end-of-life care for more than 2,500 people across the county each year with a terminal illness.

DMU and LOROS share a long-standing partnership and last year the university launched the Making a Difference from Campus to Community module, which sees Business Management students earn credits for their course by volunteering in the community.
