Pick up free chocolate from our Student Advice Centres on campus this week and next.
It’s great to welcome you back to DMU this New Year, but with the short days, cold weather and even snow, we know it can be hard to get back into the routine in January.
To welcome you back, and as a reminder about the importance of turning up to lectures, we’re adding a little extra motivation. Over the next two weeks students will be able to pick up free chocolate from the Student Advice Centres.
It’s only a small sweetener but it comes with an important reminder: attendance makes a real difference.
Being in class helps you ease back into study after the break, keep pace with your course content, and stay connected with your tutors and classmates.
Our expectation is that students will attend 80% of their classes. Regular attendance is strongly linked to better academic performance, higher confidence, and a stronger sense of belonging - especially during the darker winter months when it’s easier to feel disconnected and isolated.
We know winter can bring challenges, from cold commutes to low energy and motivation. If you’re finding things difficult, you’re not alone, and support is available. And attending lectures can be a simple but important way to stay engaged and get help if you need it.
So wrap up warm, brave the January weather, and start the term strong.
