Waymade Nursing Scholarship

The Waymade Scholarship is generously funded by the Shanta Foundation and supports five BSc undergraduate Nursing or Midwifery students each year. Funds of £3,000 are available each year for the full 3 years of study.

Eligibility

In order to apply for this scholarship, applicants must, at the time of application meet the following criteria:

  • have made DMU their firm choice for the first year of a new full time BSc undergraduate Nursing or Midwiferydegree programme at De Montfort University in the current academic year
  • be a home/fee paying student — have a UK Student Support Number (English, Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish students)
  • apply online to be income assessed by Student Finance.
  • demonstrate financial need — household income must indicate that students are eligible for means-tested support from Student Finance with a household income of up to and including £25,000
  • be paying tuition fees under the new tuition fee regime of £9,250
  • be self-funding — your course of study must not be externally funded.

*All applicants will need to have been House Hold Income (HHI) assessed by Student Finance England (SFE). This can be checked through Student Loan Company data. Census data which records postcodes where there is under-representation in Higher Education (POLAR4 and TUNDRA) may also be used.

Should insufficient applications be received that conform to one or more of the criteria defined above then these may be extended to include candidates from other disadvantaged groups, and with protected characteristics as defined in the Equality Act 2010.

Demonstration of commitment to studies

Your scholarship application form should include a statement describing your personal circumstances, highlighting how they impact on your studies and how you have demonstrated resilience in reaching your educational goals. Please include recent evidence from a professional verifying these circumstances, e.g. from a teacher, social worker, or counsellor, to be reviewed and assessed by Scholarship Awards panel.

Feedback

A requirement of the Scholarship award will be for each recipient to provide an annual report on both their academic achievements and the difference the scholarship has made to them academically and socially. Failure to complete the provided feedback form will result in the suspension of subsequent awards. In addition, the Scholarships Officer will provide a shorter mid-year report.

Annual event

Recipients will also be expected to attend an informal annual event where the scholars will meet with the donor and have the chance to offer personal thanks and feedback.
