Festive activities and support over Christmas

We would like to wish all students at DMU a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Christmas is a Christian holy day that marks the birth of Jesus, who Christians believe is the son of God. Christmas is also observed by non-religious people and people of other faiths.

Many Christians attend a special midnight church service called Midnight Mass, sing Christmas carols and exchange gifts with friends and family. Christmas is seen as a time for giving, generosity and for thinking about others.

Festive activities

We have put together some festive ideas in Leicester over the Christmas season. From Christmas movies to city trails, there are lots of things to get involved with over the holidays.

You can find the full list of seasonal events over on the Christmas in Leicester page.

Wellbeing services and support

Christmas is traditionally a loving time when friends and families come together. However, for some people, Christmas time can bring struggles.

We have several wellbeing services available at DMU, and if you have a mental health condition or difficulties with your wellbeing, it is important to have a discussion with a member of our Wellbeing Team so that they can discuss support. We can put into place reasonable academic adjustments for your course and let your academic staff know so they can also support you.

If you are not sure what kind of help you need to support your mental health and wellbeing, you can arrange for a Single Point of Access (SPA) appointment via the Student Gateway (login using your Single Sign on) and you will be directed to the appropriate support.

Visit our Healthy DMU Hub for support, information on a range of health and wellbeing-boosting activities, many of which are great fun, and might be things you’ve never considered.

As well as this, the following services will be available to you over the winter break:

  • Togetherall is designed to help students get support, take control and feel better. It provides 24/7 peer-to-peer support.
  • Every Mind Matters offers useful tips to support your wellbeing.

Urgent support options can be found here

You can also contact DMU Security, which remains open 24/7 throughout the break.
