VC Student Blog: #loveDMU: Enhancing your student experience

Hi everyone,

As we head towards the festive break, it is a great time to look back and reflect on our successes and, with a new year approaching, look to the future.

So far this year, you have studied hard, often balancing the need to work alongside your studies. You’ve seen your success in the work you’ve completed and the progress you’ve made.

You have also won prestigious local and international awards, displayed your work at exhibitions, experienced new cities and cultures and championed sustainability.

It has been a delight to watch you achieve your goals and we are so proud of all of your achievements.

Here at DMU, we’re committed to providing all of our students with an amazing university experience. Your continuous feedback allows us to understand your needs and guides the choices we make.

As part of our #loveDMU initiative, the university has made a series of enhancements in response to your feedback and we want to share with you the improvements that have been made to our teaching and learning offer, our facilities, support services and more.

Thanks to your feedback, we have:

  • Opened a new Careers Hub on campus for students to drop in whenever they want or need support.
  • Provided students and staff with accredited training on climate issues through the Carbon Literacy Project, alongside working corporate sustainability into all forms of teaching and learning.
  • Provided you with an array of free physical activities designed for students who want to try something new or develop their physical abilities.
  • Enhanced our Decolonising DMU programme, finding solutions to issues hindering the student experience of marginalised communities, and becoming the first institution in the UK to receive a silver award in the Race Equality Charter (REC).

Our new website gives full details on how we have acted on your feedback to ensure we are offering you the best possible experience and empowering you to reach your goals.

No matter what stage you are at in your student journey, we encourage you to reflect on your time as a student. As we come to the end of another year, we hope you will share with us the reasons why you #loveDMU, through photos or videos on Instagram and TikTok.

We will be giving away some fantastic prizes, including an iPhone 15, to a select number of students who share their favourite memories from their time at DMU with us. Make sure to also look out for our golden ticket competition which will be running this week.

I hope that we can continue to work together to make DMU the empowering university it aspires to be.

For now, I hope that you have a relaxing break with family and friends this Christmas. I’ll see you in January for another exciting year.

Best wishes,
