Join the Hedgehog Friendly Campus working group

Last month, DMU was awarded the Bronze Award from Hedgehog Friendly Campus, recognising all the great work of our staff and students have put into making our campus a safer place for hedgehogs and biodiversity.

This year, we’re going for Silver and we need your help to get there!

We’ve been challenged to complete a series of biodiversity objectives that help the natural world thrive and creates awareness of the dangers to hedgehogs, a species that is facing extinction in the United Kingdom after a nearly 99% decrease in numbers since 1950.

Projects completed last year included applying hedgehog warning stickers to strimmers, carrying out hedgehog surveys on campus and litter picks across campus.

Sustainable DMU also shared videos highlighting tips for creating a hedgehog friendly garden and the dangers posed to hedgehogs during Bonfire Night.

Join the student working group and take a leading role in making our campus a safer place for biodiversity and hedgehogs as a whole.
