DMU earns Hedgehog Friendly Campus Bronze Award 2021-22

DMU has been awarded the Bronze Award from Hedgehog Friendly Campus, recognising all the great work our staff and students have put into making our Leicester campus a safer place for hedgehogs and biodiversity.

Hedgehog award 560

Through the Hedgehog Friendly Campus scheme, participating organisations are challenged to complete a series of biodiversity objectives which includes activities such as raising awareness of hedgehogs and completing litter picking events to reduce the risk of harm to hedgehogs from litter.

Projects completed under the programme included applying hedgehog warning stickers to strimmers, carrying out hedgehog surveys on campus and litter picks across campus. In addition, videos were shared by Sustainable DMU on social media, highlighting tips for creating a hedgehog friendly garden and the dangers posed to hedgehogs during Bonfire Night.

Thank you to all staff and students who participated in the project in 2021. The new campaign will start in Spring 2022, so if you would like to take part in this great initiative, please email sustainability@dmu.ac.uk - everyone is welcome to get involved!
