Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, DMU has changed its regulations for coursework deadline extensions for the rest of this academic year.
If you need to request an extension to a coursework assessment deadline, for example, because you or someone you look after has Covid-19, you won’t need to provide evidence (such as a positive Covid test result or doctor’s note).
You’ll still need to ask your module leader (or nominee) for an extension using the application form and you must do this before the original deadline. Your module leader will confirm if your extension is approved (the deadline may be extended by up to 10 university working days).
This regulation is in force from 19 January to 30 September 2022. DMU has made this change because the ongoing high volume of Omicron variant cases requires a response in terms of extensions to coursework deadlines requests. It's been widely reported that there's a supply chain issue with Covid-19 tests, so it can be difficult to provide evidence of being Covid-19 positive or caring for a dependent with Covid-19.
To accommodate this and help reduce the burden on GP services, the requirement for evidence for all extension requests will be withdrawn for the remainder of the academic session.
Deferral requests must still be supported by evidence. However, you can make one self-certified deferral during an academic session without needing to provide evidence.
Please also note, it is not possible to grant an extension for an examination. You will need to apply for a deferral and provide supporting evidence in line with our current regulations.
