Fire service exercise at the Queen's Building: Tuesday 20 October, 11am

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) will hold a training exercise at the Queen's Building from 11am on Tuesday 20 October. It will look and sound like a real fire emergency, so you may see fire engines using blue lights and people evacuating the building.

Queens Building

What should I expect?

Shortly after 11am, a practice alarm will sound and the Queen's Building will be evacuated. You will need to assemble outside Monty’s. Firefighters will then enter the building, check that it is empty and locate the simulated fire.

The exercise will include artificial smoke. You may be able to see it from outside the building, but it is part of the planned exercise.

Why is this exercise taking place?

DMU and LFRS are running the exercise to test how well they respond together to a fire. It will also help DMU review its fire-safety procedures and give firefighters realistic training.

What do I need to do?

  • Avoid the area immediately outside the Queen's Building between 11am and 12pm where possible.

  • If you are in the Queen's Building, leave when the alarm sounds and follow instructions from staff.

  • You will not be able to enter the building while the exercise is taking place.

  • Other campus buildings will remain open and will not be affected.

In a real emergency: If you notice a genuine emergency during the exercise, call DMU Security on 0116 257 7642.

If you have any questions, email internal.comms@dmu.ac.uk.
