De Montfort University (DMU) Leicester has launched its new Speak Out initiative to enable students to report harassment, hate and sexual misconduct to the university.
It replaces both No Space for Hate and The Mandala Project as the single source of information to handle incidents of harassment and sexual misconduct.
Students who have experienced harassment or unwanted behaviour, or witnessed it with someone else, can Speak Out by completing a reporting form on the DMU website.
This could be sexual harassment, or harassment because of who you are, for instance race, religion, sexual orientation, gender or disability, or unwanted behaviour of any kind. It could also be abuse within a relationship, for instance controlling behaviour or so called ‘honour-based’ abuse.

How do I access Speak Out?
Speak Out is available through dmu.ac.uk/speakout or accessed through the MyDMU app, by clicking the SOS button under “Report misconduct”.
Students can use the form to report with details, so our team can investigate what happened, or anonymously. You can also request support from our wellbeing team.
If it’s an emergency, or you want to report a crime, call 999. If something happens outside normal university hours, contact DMU Security on 0116 257 7642 or visit the Security Office to get help.
Mandatory training
Related to Speak Out, students are required to complete theSexual Misconduct training session, which is found in Basecamp in the university’s Learning Zone and takes around 45 minutes to complete.
Once you have completed the training, you can pick up a ‘Speak Out Ally’ badge to show your support and help make DMU a place free of harassment and hate.
