UK weather alert: Check for campus updates tomorrow morning (Friday 9 January) before travelling

We’re closely monitoring UK Met Office advice about Storm Goretti, which is forecast to bring heavy snow and dangerous travelling conditions to the Midlands on Thursday night and Friday morning.

If we need to close the DMU Leicester campus, we will confirm arrangements for staff and students at 7.30am on Friday 9 January.

What you need to do

  • Do not travel to campus until you’ve checked our update

  • Check your DMU email, our social media channels or MyDMU on Friday morning before travelling to campus

  • If possible, be ready to study from home on Friday if necessary

  • For anyone with childcare responsibilities, please be aware that local schools may close at short notice

We’ll follow up this message at 7.30am on Friday to confirm:

  • If campus will be open

  • Arrangements for teaching and services

  • What to do if campus is open but you’re unable to travel

We’ll provide as much information as possible once we’ve assessed the weather conditions. Until then, keep safe and warm. Stay up to date with weather warnings from the UK Met Office and updates from local transport services and National Highways.

Staying safe around campus

Our Estates team has been busy working across campus making the local area as safe as possible for staff and students.

However, public roads and footpaths remain the responsibility of the Highways Department of the local council and may present a greater hazard. Please take suitable precautions when moving around and travelling to campus. These include:

  • When driving or cycling – carry out some winter checks, reduce your speed, allow space to brake and manoeuvre gradually
  • When walking – take your time, wear sensible footwear, try and keep to the gritted areas.
