Get ready to celebrate the Year of the Horse this February!

DMU students and staff are invited to join in a full weekend of Chinese/Lunar New Year festivities happening across Leicester.

Saturday 21 February – Highcross Shopping Centre (1–6pm)

Head over to Highcross for an afternoon packed with live performances and hands-on workshops. It’s a great chance to experience something new and enjoy the festival vibe.

Sunday 22 February – DMU and city centre

The celebrations continue on Sunday at 3pm, outside the Food Village at DMU, where you can catch our very own Lion Dance performance.

Right after, join the lantern procession as it lights up the route from Jubilee Square into the city centre, setting off at 3.30pm.

Everything wraps up with an epic finale at 5pm in Town Hall Square, featuring:

  • Fireworks
  • Laser displays
  • Martial arts
  • Live traditional Chinese music

This is an amazing opportunity to come together, get involved, and mark the Chinese/Lunar New Year, while celebrating the diversity of the DMU community.

The events are being run by Cosmopolitan Arts, with the support from DMU’s Confucius Institute. For full details, check out the Cosmopolitan Arts website.
