*Update 19/09/23 - Due to unforseen circumstances, the International Food Fair has been cancelled. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. *
From Tuesday 19 to Friday 22 September 2023, we will be welcoming our international students to DMU with a week full of exciting trips, sessions and activities.
The sessions will cover a wide range of topics including healthcare, opening a bank account, study skills and working in the UK. You’ll also be able to take part in a walking tour of the DMU campus.
This will run alongside our in-person registration appointments for international students and is a great opportunity to settle in before the start of your course. You can get advice on living and studying in the UK and Leicester and meet staff and other new students.
We, alongside De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU), will also be hosting a number of social activities, including an afternoon of games, a sports session evening and a day trip to Oxford.
We’ve put together a list of some of the highlights you can get involved with this week:
Travelling in the UK
Hugh Aston Building, room 3.05
At this session you can find tips and guidance on UK travel, and how to make the most of the rail and bus networks. We’ll also introduce our Explore UK weekend trips programme for students, which will begin in October.
Bowling is great way to meet and interact with other new students – it doesn’t matter if you’re a former champion or if you’ve never bowled before! If you have registered online for International Welcome Week, you will be emailed a link to book a place on the ten-pin bowling event. Please note that the numbers for this activity are limited, because of the capacity of the venue.
Campus walking tour
DMU Student Ambassadors will show you around the university campus.
DMU International Welcome Sport Evening
Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre
Come along to try out the facilities at DMU’s leisure centre and get involved in a range of free sessions delivered by DMU Sport activators, DMU sport club members, and coaches.
Day trip to Oxford
Join us on an all-day excursion to one of the most well-known cities in the UK and home to the oldest university in the English-speaking world. Please note that places on the trip are limited by the number of seats on the bus and availability of tour guides.
