Equity in education and research

Equity in education and research will focus upon decolonising teaching and learning practise and the curriculum, including building skills of staff to do so, the language used, use of UDL framework, etc. Here, work on student support, including the role of personal tutors and welfare services will be important, alongside enhanced student engagement and co-creation. This commitment will also include work on the impact of the pandemic on students, and access to learning resources. It will also work towards parity in participation, progression and outcome, including targets within the Access and Participation Plan, and for PGT and PGR. Beyond this, it will focus upon ‘extra curricula’ activity and participation, including DMU Global, placements, societies and sport, and crucially will look at the student representation structure in the institution.

Within this theme, we commit to:

  • Decolonise teaching, learning and research practices by enhancing student engagement and co-creation
  • Supporting programme teams and student support services to work towards  closing the Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority awarding gap
  • Enhancing access and embedding engagement with extra-curricular activities
  • Student social and personal development recognising and supporting the lived experiences
