English for Academic Success during your degree

Calling all international students!

Join English for Academic Success (EfAS), our free academic English and study skills course.

We provide undergraduate and postgraduate groups:

  • Weekly live classes
  • Weekly self-study materials and video
  • Bookable one-to-one sessions

EfAS classes:

Our undergraduate and postgraduate classes all begin in the week commencing 16 October 2023.

One-to-one sessions:

We have face-to-face and online slots available throughout the week. If you need to book a 20-minute one-to-one assignment help session, email us separately at englishlanguage@dmu.ac.uk.

More information on English for Academic Success

English for Academic Success (EfAS) is the Centre for English Language Learning's English language support programme for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Depending on your degree schedule, we can provide you with either:

  • An 8-week course in academic English, or
  • Two sets of 4-week courses (academic writing or speaking practice)

We also provide self-study materials and videos covering a range of academic English topics (see below for topics).

Classes can also contain group discussions on a range of issues to help boost your confidence in seminar and other speaking skills useful for your ongoing course.

  • Academic writing style
  • Reference and citation – Harvard System
  • Summarising
  • Paraphrasing
  • Avoiding plagiarism
  • Paragraph structure and text cohesion
  • Writing introductions and conclusions
  • Giving a presentation
  • Academic writing – hedging and stance
  • Seminar discussion skills and practice
