DMU Support Fund - part-time undergraduate student information

Am I eligible to apply?

  • You must be enrolled on your course
  • You must be a Home student (and be assessed as such by your funding provider)
  • You need to be approved for all funding you are eligible for (pre-Aug 2018: Tuition Fee Loan; post-Aug 2018: Tuition Fee Loan and means-tested Maintenance Loan)
  • If you are not entitled to funding from your funding provider (e.g. previous study; or Equivalent Level Qualification) you can still apply to the DMU Support Fund, but you must be able to evidence that you have sufficient funds to cover the total of your Tuition Fees. You must also have a Payment Plan in place for your fees, be up-to-date with your payments and not in debt to DMU.

What does this Fund help with?

  • Benefit buffer e.g. if benefits have stopped to get re-assessed
  • Care experienced: for students who can show they have been in care at some point in their lives
  • Final Year costs
  • First Year high rent costs (students on Foundation Year Zero; or students in Year 1; or direct entry into Year 2)
  • Second Year high rent costs (students in Year 2; or repeating Year 1; or students who did Year Zero and are now in Year 1)
  • Students with children who live with them and are under 18 years old
  • Students with a disability/medical condition (not a learning difference like dyslexia)
  • Students who travel 10+ miles to DMU campus/ or a Partnership college daily. This may not currently be applicable, due to online learning during the pandemic.

How do I apply?

You must complete the online application form and you must provide all the documents requested for your circumstances, view our video guides below. We will only log receipt of your application form after you have emailed your evidence. We cannot commence an assessment if the form or evidence is incomplete.

Closing date for applications: Friday 11 June 2021 but we may have to withdraw the Fund at any point prior to the closing date if funds are deemed to be running low.

  1. What happens after I apply?

    We will aim to assess your application within four working weeks of it being submitted, then (if eligible for an award) you may need to allow a bit longer to receive the payment. Dates when DMU is closed (e.g. Christmas and Easter) do not form part of the turnaround time.

    If an assessor contacts you to ask for clarification or for further evidence, it may take longer for your application to be assessed, but your application will not be put to the back of the queue. We will aim to continue with the assessment as soon as we can after receiving the additional information.

    Please avoid contacting us about your application until the four-working weeks have passed, unless you have a change of circumstances. Enquiries regarding the progress of your application stops the assessors from working on assessments.

  3. How do I query my assessment decision?

    If you are not satisfied with the outcome of your assessment decision, you can book a ¼-hour 'Quick Query' appointment to review the outcome. Please don't book the appointment yourself, as we need to ensure you are booked in with the appropriate member of staff (not all staff can do these appointments).

    If there is additional information that comes to light, or your circumstances have changed and you are able to provide evidence to support this, the administrator will determine whether to re-assess your application. If there is no additional evidence, the original decision will remain the same.


If you have checked the information above and seen that you are eligible to apply, only after you have submitted your online application form, you will need to email your supporting evidence to us as attachments, before we can assess you. Please make sure you state your name and P Number. You can use a free app called Adobe Scan, or take photos or download PDFs but please make sure that your evidence is clear, easy to read and you don’t chop off any important details.

Partner's income - if you live with your partner

Prescription costs

Rent costs - first years and second years with very high rent costs

Travel costs - living away from home, over 10 miles from campus and expected to travel in regularly

If you have already applied in 2020/21 and you are submitting another application:

Re-applying - check to see what additional evidence we need
