Get active with Leicester's range of outdoor gyms


Outdoor gyms across the city are now open for public use. There are over 30 available in a variety of locations across Leicester that provide the opportunity for all to exercise in a local outdoor setting.

Outdoor gyms are a valuable asset to the community as they are free spaces to exercise and improve your health and wellbeing.

As we edge into recovery outdoor gyms may play an important role in supporting people to return to physical activity, however not everyone is aware of them or how to use them.

Leicester City Council have created new resources and videos providing guidance on how to use outdoor gyms safely, example exercise routines and tips on how to use the equipment. There is also government guidance and rules for using the gyms:

  • Wipe down equipment before and after use

  • Ensure you remain 2 metres apart from others using the outdoor gym at all times

  • Only one user at any time per item of gym equipment, and remember to maintain social distancing and give others space

  • Do not touch your face whilst using the outdoor gyms

  • Think of others, limit your time on individual equipment if others are waiting

  • Do not eat whilst using the outdoor gyms, and avoid unwashed hands coming into contact with where you drink from on your water bottle

  • Do not share water bottles

  • Wash your hands after your session for 20 seconds with warm water and soap or use hand sanitiser, and clean anything such as water bottles or mobile phones that you handled during your workout

  • Please dispose of any rubbish properly in a bin.
