De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) has been rated one of the top 20 universities in the country, following the announcement of the 2026 Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) results.
The WUSCAs are the only higher education awards in the UK judged entirely by students. This year, over 42,000 verified student reviews were collected across 91 universities, with DMU's results its strongest-ever performance across the board.
In the flagship Overall University category, students ranked DMU 17th in the country, a rise of 18 places from last year, while in the East Midlands, DMU was the third highest-rated institution.
The university also placed fifth nationally for Postgraduate experience and tenth for both International students and university halls.
Across all ten categories measured, DMU improved its ranking year-on-year, with some of the most striking gains coming in student life (up 28 places to 20th) and students' union (up 26 places to 19th).
Professor Lisa Stansbie, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education, Equalities and Student Experience at DMU, said: “To be ranked among the top 20 universities in the country by our own students is something we are incredibly proud of. What makes this even more meaningful is that every single ranking improved this year. That speaks to a community that is genuinely listening, genuinely improving, and genuinely committed to the student experience."
DMU's postgraduate offering continues to earn exceptional recognition, with students placing the university fifth in the country, the culmination of a consistent run of top-ten finishes in recent years. The university also placed tenth nationally for International student experience and tenth for University Halls, while Facilities improved 11 places to 17th.
Student Support saw one of the most significant climbs, rising 22 places, a result that reflects DMU's distinctive approach to how students learn as much as how they are cared for. DMU is one of only a small number of universities in the UK to offer block teaching, a model in which students study one module at a time, allowing for greater focus, flexibility and depth.
