Researchers from De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) are contributing their expertise to an international initiative exploring the future of quantum computing, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
The Quantum Think Centre Colombia (QTC-CO) was launched in Bogotá at an event hosted at the British Embassy, bringing together representatives from academia, industry and government to discuss the responsible development of emerging technologies.

Professor Mario Gongora, who leads DMU’s Research in Societal Enhancement (RiSE) group, was invited to speak at the launch event as an expert in artificial intelligence.
He was joined by Dr Mujeeb Ur Rehman, a specialist in post-quantum cybersecurity, who also attended and contributed to discussions around future digital security.
Researchers aim to explore how advances in quantum computing and AI can be applied responsibly across society and industry, with a particular focus on cybersecurity and the protection of critical systems.

Professor Gongora said: “International collaboration is essential as technologies such as AI and quantum computing evolve. Initiatives like this create space for researchers, industry and policymakers to consider how powerful new technologies can be developed responsibly and for the benefit of society."
Dr Mujeeb Ur Rehman added: “Preparing for the impact of quantum computing on cybersecurity is a global challenge. Sharing knowledge and research internationally helps ensure future digital infrastructure is secure, resilient and ready for the next generation of technologies.”
DMU researchers continue to engage with international partners across AI and cybersecurity, contributing expertise to discussions on responsible innovation and the future of digital security.
This initiative is supported by Universidad EAN, De Montfort University (UK), QuantPaths UK, and the British Embassy Bogota.
