VC Student Blog: Academic and wellbeing support – we've got you covered

Hi everyone,

Welcome back after the Easter break. For many of you, exams and assessments are fast approaching. Assessments can be stressful, but don’t worry, we’ve got plenty of resources to help you prepare and succeed.

First, be sure to take time to visit our exams webpage and read through it carefully. It’s packed with guidance, tells you what to expect and what to do if you have any problems. Exam schedules are published throughout the year on MyDMU and we recently improved the app to make it easier to use.

We also have a range of academic services to help you sharpen your abilities – whether that’s help with essay writing, research methods and referencing, digital tools, time management or exam preparation. You can choose from BaseCamp content (through LearningZone) or use the library’s online learning guides.

The library also offers in-person and online drop-in sessions, or you can book a 30-minute tutorial to fill gaps in your skillset. And with the Library open for 24 hours every day, you’ve got plenty of time to get in touch and take advantage.

You can also reach out to your personal tutor for guidance and support at any time during your studies.

If you have a disability, the Disability Advice and Support Team is here to make sure you have the assistance you need to thrive. I know that your needs are unique, so we’ll work with you so you can fully take part in your course and university experience.

Your mental health and wellbeing are keys to your academic success. Without them you won’t be able to do your best. On the Healthy DMU Hub you’ll find online resources and classes to help you reach the right balance of living and studying. If you need someone to talk to, the Wellbeing Team offers confidential counselling and support.

The Careers Team can help you develop those essential professional skills. From placements and internships to work-readiness training and coaching, they’ll make sure you’re ready to tackle the competitive job market with confidence.

Did you see that our Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Team has rebranded itself as DMU Made? It’s got a fantastic Creative Industries Programme running from April to June, featuring media personalities, entrepreneurs and freelancers sharing their insights. If you’re interested in breaking into creative fields – such as music, performing arts, art and graphic design, film and video, podcasting or digital journalism – you should definitely go.

Best of luck with your exams and assessments. Believe in yourself and don’t hesitate to take advantage of the services DMU has to offer. We’re here for you.

Best wishes,
