A letter from DMU's new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Katie Normington, to all alumni

Dear Alumni,

I wanted to write and introduce myself as the new Vice-Chancellor of De Montfort University. It’s hard to know how to do that at a time like this, where so much is not possible. But these days I only handwrite letters on special occasions and this is special for me and I hope for DMU as we go forward together.

At this time, I’d like to thank those alumni who have helped us support our current students and staff through various programmes by giving both your time and financial support. For our recent alumni, I’d like to offer my words of support as you launch your careers in this difficult time and I know you will draw on the very resilience that got you through your studies with us.

I was drawn to DMU because of its strong reputation for delivering transformational education, its commitment to diversity and sustainability, research which benefits the society around us, and its relationship to the city through DMU Local and other projects. But above all, I admire the verve and energy of DMU, the willingness to give things a go.

I am spending my first few months listening to staff and students to understand more about DMU. We will use this as a starting point to consult on a new strategy to take us forward.

I hope you stay in touch through our Global Alumni hub and through participating in our forthcoming survey and investment with the strategy. And I look forward to meeting you!

Best wishes at this time,

Katie

Professor Katie Normington

Vice-Chancellor
