Practising solicitors and the president of Leicestershire Law Society were among the guests as graduates picked up prizes for outstanding work.
Many students of the
Leicester Institute of Legal Practice at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) are already working in practice and take advantage of the university’s excellent part-time courses to improve their career prospects.
The school enjoys close links with law firms in the city, county and around the country.
Solicitors are mentors for students on many of the programmes and many former DMU graduates returned for the prize giving to hand out awards.
Rebecca Del Grosso, who was awarded the Neil Head Memorial Prize for best student on the sport and media elective, said: “I was really shocked but I didn’t think had done very well in the exam. The lecturers are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and that was one of the reasons I chose to do the module.”
She has now begun a training contract with Edward Hands and Lewis solicitors in Leicester.
Amy Chan, who won best part-time LPC student, achieved a distinction while Louise Courtney, of Quality Solicitors Moore and Tibbits took the Leicestershire Law Society Prize for best stage II LPC student, full time.
Kerrie Deakin, associate head (Postgraduate and Professional programmes) of the LILP said: “We have had some truly incredible results this year and some very talented students, many of whom are already working in practice and we wish them all the best for the future. We are so fortunate that all of our prizes are sponsored by local firms and the Leicestershire Law Society.”
