PhD project

Title

Web User Interface Research in Mixed Reality

Abstract

In order to improve the user experience of web services in XR platforms, our research aims to design a Web XR User Interface framework with XR characteristics. It is expected that different stakeholders such as users, designers/developers, web application owners and researchers will find the framework developed beneficial. The users can have an immersive experience by exploring the Web XR applications. Designers/developers can use the new interactive methodology to improve their workflow. The web application owners can use the XR trending to expand their applications’ reputation in the global market. The researchers can inspire by this study to achieve a breakthrough in the use of XR in web platforms to generate new interactive methodology in contributing to future life. Further, my research field is web front-end development (industry experiences) and XR fields. I expect that the research can combine both areas I am familiar with. I hope my research can contribute to Web development in XR platforms.

In the project, the study explores Web XR and its current circumstances. The study aims to optimize the current UI layout with XR fundamental features. The research discussed the advantages of web componentization and the Page Builder System. The study refers to these existing HTML5 technologies for designing a general and convenient UI framework. The study has generated positive outcomes in improving static websites' UI in XR platforms. In the third year of the Ph.D. study, the research moves to dynamic websites and focuses on improving the academic publication web services' UI. The research aims to transfer 2D content elements into 3D environments, including text display, article navigation, and interactive data figure visualization. The research will conduct a careful user test section with various survey methodologies. The research will complete a general framework and principles contributing to the Web XR field.
