Important reminder about attendance

To get the best support for your learning, you need to attend all activities in your timetable. You also need to register your attendance at all timetabled activities within 15 minutes of the scheduled start of the session.

Registering is quick and easy. In campus rooms with card readers, swipe your student ID card against the card reader as you enter.

If a room doesn’t have a card reader or you’re attending a live online timetabled activity, you can do one of the following instead:

It’s important that we record this information accurately because we use it to make sure you are following our Attendance Monitoring Policy.

Please be aware that you’ll be recorded as absent if you don’t register during the first 15 minutes of timetabled activities or leave early after registering. If you have a problem attending for any reason, please discuss this with your personal tutor, module leader or the Faculty Student Advice Centre so we can help you.

Important – only you can be responsible for registering your attendance:

  • Don’t ask someone to swipe in for you, or do this for other students
  • Don’t share the seven-digit/QR code with anyone
  • Don’t register your attendance and leave before teaching begins

Your attendance and performance in assessments are closely linked. Poor attendance may lower your marks or even cause you to fail a module.

If you miss timetabled activities, your faculty will contact you through your university email address to find out more. This helps us to identify and support students who are having difficulties.

You should reply to any messages sent by the faculty as soon as possible. If you don’t do this, there may be serious consequences, such as being dismissed from the university and/or having your visa cancelled (if you are an international student).

There are lots of services to guide and support you at DMU. Please visit our webpages for more information – including advice on wellbeing, finance and careers, as well as a range of other resources – or make an appointment with the Student Gateway. We can help you if you have personal circumstances which may affect your attendance.
