If you are an international student, we offer a lot of careers support to help get you settled in the UK. As well as access to all the other opportunities on these pages, there are a number of extra opportunities for you.

Access a range of jobs platforms geared towards international careers

You will gain access to a number of jobs platforms aimed at international students, including our own student jobs boards, and a job site listing roles offering sponsorship to work in the UK. To find out more, see our page on getting work experience.

Careers and visa advice

Our career coaches have lots of experience working with international students from different countries, and can support you to understand the UK labour market and take the next step of your career after graduation. We also have trained visa advisers to help you understand visas in the UK once you graduate.

Careers and our partner institutions

If you’re studying at one of our partner institutions abroad, we are still here for you. You will have access to an extensive programme of online careers support, which includes:

  1. One-to-one guidance online with our career coaches.
  2. Online webinars and training sessions ran by UK and international employers.
  3. A suite of online resources and digital career development tools, including:
    1. The DMU Careers Hub, our career online hub where you can find all relevant information to get your career started, including resources and links to book personal appointments, book spaces in our dedicated workshops and events as well as direct links to our tools and resources to develop your professional skills.
    2. CV 360, our online CV review tool
    3. Shortlister, our video interview practice tool.
    4. Access to all our jobs boards, publications, and subscriptions detailed in other pages.

Careers and the UK market

We have two partnerships in place to help international students better understand the UK labour market and what it takes to get your career started here.

  1. UK Career Ready: a programme by shortlist.me and Gradconsult, Uk Career Ready is a unique FastTrack programme, purposely designed to develop your confidence and readiness to embark on a successful career in the UK.
  2. Student Circus: a site that focuses on job listings that offer Skilled-Worker-visa sponsored jobs, and now also offers the possibility to explore job opportunities in other international countries. There is also a curated International Student Handbook, containing useful information about the UK labour market, plus career opportunities, tools, guides and templates to help you create your professional portfolio. 

Lifetime support

You will gain access to our careers service for life after graduation. This means you can use our services whenever you want, for as long as you need. Whether you’ve just graduated and moved onto the graduate immigration route, or want to chat to us after ten years in industry, we can help.

Postgraduate Taught students: Modules covering the UK labour market and how to stand out

Our international postgraduates gain access to a module and lecture series covering the UK labour market and how to impress employers. This will give you the knowledge you need to start your career search, whether in the UK or globally.
