The Media and Communication Research Centre was formed in 2018 in order to support a broad range of empirical and theoretical research within the expansive field of the Media and Communication subject area. The broad aim of the centre is to research the crucial relationships between media, politics, technology and society.
Media are ubiquitous in contemporary societies and help shape norms and values. To understand societal problems, challenges and opportunities we must understand how media position us to respond to them. Attention is paid to structures of power and at the ways in which audiences experience their media environment. The role different media technologies play in these structures is also a key area of investigation.
