Welcome Festival: What to expect

The Welcome Fair is one of the highlights of our annual Welcome Festival here at DMU.

Hosted by the De Montfort Student Union (DSU) and set across Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 September, this is a chance for new and returning students to discover societies, fall in love with a new sport or hobby, and get their hands on loads of freebies.

From Book Club to Minecraft and Fine Art to Pole Dancing, there’s something for everyone at the Welcome Fair.

There will also be fairground games, brands such as Pure Gym, Google Gemini and National Express, and friendly student advisors on hand to give you all the information you may need about life at DMU.

We have more than 100 student groups at DMU, which you can explore on the DSU website.

You will have the chance to meet students in these clubs and societies across the Welcome Fair but if you can’t make it, you can still join through the DSU website.

And – just in case you needed any more incentive – there will be free pizza too, courtesy of Domino’s.

Please note: you must book a free spot for entry on both days. If you have a DSU Welcome Festival Wristband then you're already booked in. Collect it in advance to skip the queues.

If you're struggling to connect to their student account when booking, don't worry, the team can sign you in on the door. But please be aware that this may take longer to enter.

DMU is the first university to switch to rounded-tip knives in a bid to drive public safety. A rounded-tipped blade cuts just as well as a traditional kitchen knife but has been proven, by research from DMU, to reduce the risk of serious injury.

If you’ve not bought a kitchen knife yet for your halls or you’re interested in more information, pop down to the stall.

Many Leicester institutions and the production team behind This Morning Live have switched to rounded-tipped knives.

The Welcome Fair takes place from 10am to 4pm.
