Introducing Monty's – your new campus lounge

New year, new food options and a new campus lounge.

The former Food Village, off Mill Lane in the heart of campus, has been transformed over the summer into a new collaborative space for students to meet up, do some work or grab a bite to eat in between lectures.

The new space, which will be called Monty’s in homage to our lovable mascot, Monty the Lion, will feature private booths, tables with charging points, dining tables and a sleek, modern aesthetic

Food options will rotate throughout the year, with pop-up restaurants serving food from around the globe.

The Monty’s era kicks off throughout Welcome Week with mouthwatering burgers and Kim’s Korean, which serves Asian-fusion cuisine and has already proven extremely popular since coming to DMU temporarily in the Campus Centre.

And you may notice that renowned coffee shop, Saints of Mokha, has also opened its doors as part of Monty’s.

In what is a big coup for DMU, the Sacranie family will be expanding their successful café and opening a new coffee shop on The Gateway.

Saints of Mokha has been extremely popular both for its speciality blends – including its Red Velvet coffee and aqua blue sweet latte, Luna – and for a place for DMU students to catch up. The café in Belvoir Street has previously hosted DMU film screenings and has its own small bookstore.

Earlier this year, the café was placed among the top 100 coffee shops in the world according to the aptly titled World's 100 Best Coffee Shops 2026.

We’re looking forward to seeing Monty’s turn into a vibrant hub on campus and can’t wait to welcome you through the doors!
