International student arrival on campus

As you will undoubtedly be aware, the UK is now in a period of national mourning following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We at DMU share the nation and wider world’s deep sorrow.

The period of mourning lasts until the end of the day of the State Funeral, which will be held next Monday, 19 September. Throughout this time, the university will be following the Government’s national mourning guidance. This means we will be honouring the national bank holiday on the day of the funeral, officially closing the university and ceasing most university business for the duration of Monday, September 19, in line with other bank holidays.

However, we want to reassure you that despite this, our priority is still to support international students arriving in the UK on that day. As such, we will be operating scheduled airport pickups throughout Monday.

Please note that while international student registration appointments that had been scheduled for Monday 19 September have now been postponed, all students should have received confirmation of this with the opportunity to schedule an alternative date.

If you are due to be in the UK on Monday 19 September, please ensure to check any travel arrangements you may have, and be aware that most shops will likely to be closed due to the Queen’s funeral.

If you have any questions then you can contact our international students support team at ask.international@dmu.ac.uk.

International Welcome Week

From Monday 19 to Friday 23 September 2022, we will be welcoming all our international students to DMU with a week full of exciting trips, sessions and activities.

This will run alongside our in-person registration appointments for international students and is a great opportunity to settle in before the start of your course. You can get advice on living and studying in the UK and Leicester and meet staff and other new students.

The sessions will cover a wide range of topics including healthcare, opening a bank account, study skills and working in the UK. You’ll also be able to take a tour of the DMU campus and Leicester City Centre.

We, along with De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU), will also be hosting a number of social activities, including karaoke and games nights, sports taster sessions and a day trip to Oxford.

Sign up for International Registration Week here.
