Celebrate Leicester Pride 2022

Leicester Pride, one of England's largest free LGBTQ+ events, is taking place on Saturday 3 September 2022 at Victoria Park.

The event starts with a parade at midday from the Curve theatre, heading through the city centre via Humberstone Gate and Market Street, then continuing onto New Walk and arriving at Victoria Park at around 1pm.

The vibrant parade sees thousands of people march through the city centre towards Victoria Park, where the family friendly Pride festivities continue with live music, dance acts, cabaret, DJs, food and drink, market stalls, fairground rides and more.

Larger groups (of five or more) joining the event are required to register via the Leicester Pride website.

Sarah Thomson, Director of Engagement, Social Impact and Engagement said: "This year marks 50 years since the first pride event took place in the UK. Leicester Pride is such an important event in the LGBTQ+ calendar as a creative outlet, a reflection on progress, and most importantly a celebration of identity and diversity. It is great that the community, families and allies can all get together to celebrate and embrace the community in a safe and inclusive environment, and I hope as many people as possible are able to attend and enjoy the festivity!"

DMU actively champions and values diversity and is proud of and supports its LGBTQ+ staff and students. If you are planning on going to Leicester Pride and would like to join other DMU collegues and march together, please email equality@dmu.ac.uk; this is also open to people who work with DMU, for example Unitemps and Chartwells.

Feel free to share your Pride celebrations on social media via Twitter (@dmuleicester), Instagam (dmuleicester) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/dmuleicester).
