Your DMU Safety reminder

As the Government’s phased release of lockdown restrictions has progressed this month, we have been delighted to have the opportunity to welcome back some of our students to campus and term-time accommodation, although we appreciate that sadly, for many of you, teaching has now finished for this academic year. 

For those of you who are visiting campus, we wanted to remind you to make sure you are following our Your DMU Safety guidance. With the spread of the new, more transmissible Indian variant of Covid-19, it is more important than ever that we all do our bit to keep ourselves and each other safe. 

Please use the DMU Safe Trace app while you are on campus by scanning the QR codes in designated university rooms and spaces. It is quick and easy to use and will help us to stop the spread of the virus should you receive a positive test result. 

If you receive a positive Covid-19 test result, you should report it to the university within 24 hours using our DMU Safe Trace positive result webform. If you asked to self-isolate as you have been listed as close contact, arrived from overseas or for any other reason please let DMU know by completing the self-isolation webform. By doing this we can give you the help and support you need and keep the wider university community safe. 

Asymptomatic testing is still available to book via MyDMU at The Watershed in Upperton Road. Testing is also available at pop-up sites in The Eric Wood Building on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and, at Portland Building Tuesday and Thursday between 11am and 3pm. Booking is not necessary however, a valid student/staff ID card will be required. 

You can also collect home testing kits by arranging this via MyDMU. 

If you have any of the Covid-19 symptoms you can order a PCR home testing kit online which you can take without leaving your accommodation, but the turnaround time is not as fast as local, regional or mobile testing sites, so we would recommend using these where possible. 

If you are planning on returning to campus, you must undertake three supervised Covid-19 lateral flow tests at an on-campus asymptomatic testing site – the first immediately upon your return and then again three/four days and six/eight days later. Students will then need to continue to get tested twice weekly thereafter throughout the summer term. Before any students start their journeys to their term-time accommodation, the Government is also encouraging them to take a test either through home or community testing at least one day before they travel back.
