Watch DMU Jazz Band livestream on Friday 3 July to celebrate release of 'Ladybird'

The DMU Jazz Band will be releasing its debut album, Ladybird on Friday 3 July.

The album brings together staff, students and the community to create the jazz 'Big Band' sound. Therefore, when lockdown was announced, the 15 members needed to adapt to finish recording the album from home

To celebrate the release, we're inviting you to join us for a livestream on our YouTube channel at 12.30pm on Friday 3 July. We welcome DMU Jazz Band Musical Director Gareth John, plus members of the band, to talk all about the album and how it was recorded behind-the-scenes.

We will also share more information about the DMU Music department, for anyone looking for further music opportunities at DMU.

In April, we held a competition to design the album artwork for Ladybird and we will be proud to share the winning design with you during the livestream. The winning artwork was designed by Fine Art student, Rosa Ramirez Perez.

Musical Director Gareth said: "We are all so proud of this debut album and for me its been pleasing to see such a positivity around the bandroom while we were making it.

"Even when the nation went into lockdown, the band were determined to see this project through to the end, and we look forward to making many more records and creating an impressive legacy as DMU Jazz Band."

You can listen to the album’s first single 'Ladybird' on Spotify now and stream the album on Friday.
