SDG Opportunities Fund

Our SDG Student Fellows programme empowers students to take action on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), creating positive change in local communities and around the world. Fellows work on projects that promote sustainability, social justice, inclusion and global citizenship, while developing the skills and confidence to become future leaders.

For many students, being an SDG Fellow opens doors to opportunities they may never have imagined. From delivering community projects and supporting refugee programmes in Leicester to sharing their work at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Fellows gain experiences that can have a lasting impact on their personal and professional development.

However, participation in these opportunities can involve costs associated with travel, project delivery, training and networking activities. For some students, financial barriers can make it difficult to fully engage with the programme and maximise its impact.

Supporting the SDG Student Fellows Fund would help ensure that more students can access these transformational experiences, regardless of their background or circumstances. Your support could help students develop and deliver projects that benefit communities, contribute to global sustainability goals and represent DMU on national and international stages.

Through philanthropic support, we can help students like Alice and Damari, who were given the opportunity to present their work directly to leaders from United Nations Academic Impact at UN Headquarters in New York. Alice shared her experiences supporting refugees through Project Atefa, while Damari showcased a shoemaking initiative in Tanzania that equipped women and girls with practical vocational skills and reached more than 1,800 people.

I never imagined it could lead to this and I would urge others to become SDG Student Fellows because you never know where it will take you

Alice Bettinson, SDG Student Fellow
