De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) has improved its position in the top seven per cent of the world's universities according to the 2026 Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR).
DMU rose from 1,489th to 1,477th place in the latest rankings, which assessed 21,291 universities worldwide.
The latest rankings place DMU 489th in Europe, and 76th in the UK.
CWUR's rankings are based on an independent assessment of university performance across a number of areas, including quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty and research performance. This year's global rankings were compiled using 81 million outcome-based data points.
DMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Katie Normington said: "This latest rise in the CWUR rankings is further evidence of the progress DMU is making as a global, empowering university across a range of measures, from research performance and graduate outcomes to student satisfaction.
"It reflects the talent and commitment of our staff, students and partners, and underlines our determination to provide an education that is both academically rigorous and genuinely transformative."
The ranking follows a series of recent successes for the university, including being named the best UK university for careers, learning and value for money in the International Student Barometer (ISB), the largest global survey of its kind, which gathered responses from more than 93,000 students across 135 universities worldwide.
DMU claimed first place in the UK across the three categories, and ranked third in the UK and tenth in the world for overall satisfaction.
DMU has also been rated as one of the top 20 universities in the country in the latest Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs).
The WUSCAs are the only higher education awards in the UK judged entirely by students. This year, more than 42,000 verified student reviews were collected across 91 universities, with DMU achieving its strongest-ever performance across the board.
In the flagship Overall University category, students ranked DMU 17th in the country, a rise of 18 places from last year, while in the East Midlands DMU was the third highest-rated institution.
