A new tracing system and safety website are being launched at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) to make the new term as safe as possible for students.

Called Your DMU Safety the new site provides a one-stop shop for all the latest COVID-19 related health and safety information, to ensure students can enjoy campus and university life, safely. It will be published alongside the creation of DMU Safe Trace, a location registration service that aims to help support local and national health bodies to trace any outbreaks of the virus and report any positive cases to the university.

It uses QR codes (and/or a webform) to track student locations as they attend face-to-face lectures and use other spaces and facilities on campus.

The package aims to provide students and staff with the most positive and safest experience possible.

On the Your DMU Safety site, there is a multitude of safety measures and processes put in place across the university, working closely with UK Government guidelines, Public Heath England (PHE) and local authorities at the Leicester City Council (LCC).

Advice on how to stay safe in accommodation, where and when face coverings should be worn, how to access local test sites and how to access support when self-isolating are on the site. It also outlines the processes to follow for suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19, working with the relevant authorities.

There is a shared commitment between everyone in the DMU community to follow this advice to keep each other safe. The launch comes as part of Your DMU Future, the approach which connects safe campus living, quality teaching, one-to-one time with academics and a great student experience, all within DMU’s diverse, inclusive, and welcoming community.

Every student will be able to access on-campus-elements as part of their DMU experience. The approach has created a new blend of online learning and face-to-face teaching, making sure the vital, practical experiences students come to university for – such as working in laboratories, hands-on engineering, designing and making clothes – will all be available in a safe, socially-distanced way.

DMU has a regularly updated information page which will answer questions about applying, grades and starting life at university.
