Empowering Excellence Through Education
As part of De Montfort University’s (DMU) Empowering Strategy, we are proud to introduce the Empowering Excellence Scholarship, designed to support talented international students to access world-class education and achieve their academic ambitions.
This scholarship reflects DMU’s commitment to widening access to higher education and creating opportunities for students from around the world to thrive in a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
Scholarship value
Successful applicants will receive a scholarship worth £8,500 which will be applied towards tuition fees for their first year of study at DMU.
Who can apply?
The Empowering Excellence Scholarship is open to international students who are nationals (citizens) of the following countries and territories and who are applying to study at DMU.
- Canada
- Chile
- Indonesia
- Malaysia
- Mexico
- Peru
- Singapore
- South Korea
- Taiwan
- Thailand
- USA
Applicants must be applying for either:
- An undergraduate (UG) programme, or
- A postgraduate (PG) taught programme
Please note: Students applying for the MPharm programme are not eligible for this scholarship.
Applicants must intend to commence their studies in September 2026.
How to apply
Applications are accepted and scholarships awarded on an ongoing basis throughout the recruitment cycle.
To be considered for the scholarship, eligible students should complete and submit the application form below.
Important conditions
- You must hold an offer from De Montfort University before applying for the scholarship.
- Successful applicants will receive a formal scholarship confirmation letter.
- To secure the scholarship award, recipients must pay a £4,000 tuition fee deposit within 10 days of receiving their scholarship confirmation letter.
- Failure to pay the required deposit within the specified timeframe may result in the scholarship offer being withdrawn.

Academic eligibility requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum academic requirements:
Canada
Undergraduate
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan: 75% in five acceptable Grade 12 courses
- British Columbia and Yukon Territory: Five B grades in acceptable Grade 12 courses
- Ontario: 75% average across six Grade 12 courses
- Quebec (Diplôme d'Études Collégiales (DEC)): Merit
Postgraduate Taught
- Minimum 2:1 equivalent qualification
Chile
Undergraduate
- Grade of 5/7 in a recognised qualification
Postgraduate Taught
- Minimum 2:1 equivalent qualification
Indonesia

- Minimum 2:1 equivalent qualification
Malaysia
