International Scholarships and Discounts
General
- International scholarships and discounts are only available to students who are assessed by DMU as having overseas international student status and who pay overseas international rate tuition fees.
- Awards will not be applied to courses with fees lower than the lowest standard international fee.
- Scholarships are not available to students continuing and/or progressing from International Year Zero, International First Year, International Second Year, International Foundation Certificate and Incorporated Master’s courses including DMU International College, to De Montfort University courses, but may be eligible to apply for DMU International College awards.
- Decisions made by DMU regarding eligibility for all discounts and scholarships, including those awarded on a competitive basis, are final. Awards are made at the full and sole discretion of DMU.
- DMU will use its website to advertise the terms and conditions in relation to this award.
- All Scholarship and Discount award will be invalid to an applicant whose deposit payment is paid or received by DMU after the deadline date stated on the international page or on the deadline stated on their award letter. DMU strongly advises all applicants to check the international scholarships webpages and/or award letter carefully before making a deposit payment.
- The Full Fee Payment Scholarship will be given as tuition fee remissions and will only be awarded during the first year of study for students entering all levels of study (level 4, 5, 6 and 7). Student must pay the total tuition fee minus any eligible scholarship to be eligible for the award.
- The Full Fee Payment Scholarship can only be combined with Global Access Scholarship. It cannot be combined with any other scholarship offering.
- All international scholarship and discount awards are not transferable and cannot be deferred to an earlier or later start date.
- Postgraduate Research (PHD, DBA, MPhil) and Foundation (Engineering Year Zero and Art & Design Diploma) applicants are not eligible for any international scholarships.
- A student can only be in receipt of one De Montfort University scholarship unless specifically stated otherwise. Students who meet the eligibility criteria for more than one of the scholarships will be awarded the scholarship which is the most beneficial to them. The beneficial scholarship will be decided by DMU.
- No cash alternatives will be offered. Awards cannot be transferred to another recipient.
- Only self-funded students are eligible for international scholarships. Students in receipt of any type of sponsorship or third-party funding will not be eligible. For sake of doubt, a student undertaking a repayable student loan through a government backed body, bank or FCA approved entity would be classed as self-funded.
- DMU reserves the right to cancel any award at any time which has been claimed fraudulently including on the basis of provision of false information to claim the award, and to apply the full tuition fee. If an award is found to have been claimed fraudulently, the award amount will be added to the student’s university account and must be paid in full before the end of the student’s course.
- Where a student who has been awarded a scholarship terminates or interrupts their studies prior to the completion of their first year of study, the award will be pro-rated, based on the student’s last date of attendance.
- The award of a scholarship to a student does not impact or alter any terms set out under DMU’s Tuition Fee and Refund policy
- Recipients of a scholarship or discount must have no outstanding debt to the university at the point of the International Scholarship being awarded.
- By accepting any scholarship, students agree to accept these full terms, conditions and rules of the scholarship and agree to abide by the university rules and any requirements and/or proceedings issued by DMU in relation to the scholarship.
Global Access Scholarship
- The Global Access Scholarship will be given as tuition fee remission. Students who enter Level 4 and 5 of an undergraduate degree will be eligible to have the award applied recurrently in subsequent years of study (i.e. Level 5 and 6). Please check the scholarships pages for a full illustration. The Global Access Scholarship will not cover more than 3 years of study unless the program of study is the MPharm or a MEng variant in which cases 4 years are applicable.
- The Global Access Scholarship is not applicable in any circumstances for repeated academic years. The scholarship is only applied where a student has successfully progressed from the previous academic year. Should a student fail or retake an academic year the scholarship is no longer applied recurrently.
- The Global Access Scholarship will be given as tuition fee remission and will only be awarded during the first year of study for students entering at postgraduate level.
Global Partnership Scholarship
- The Global Partnership Scholarship is available to new international students starting on a full-time undergraduate course of study at DMU Leicester and London. The value of the award is determined from time to time, may differ for DMU Leicester and DMU London, and will be advertised on the university website.
- To be eligible, an applicant must (i) have received an offer to study on a full-time course, starting in September 2026 or February 2027 (ii) have accepted their offer, and (iii) have paid a deposit by the deadline date stated on the international page. The Global Partnerships scholarships is applied and deducted from outstanding fees once a deposit payment is received.
- Successful award holders of the Global Partnerships Scholarship who enter Level 4 will also be eligible for the Global Access Award recurrently in up to 2 subsequent years of study (i.e. Level 5 and 6).
- Applications for the Global Partnerships Award will be accepted by students meeting the defined criteria on the International Scholarships page. Students must submit an application by the advertised deadline to be considered. Award winners will be notified no later than Friday 31 July.
- Only students originating from DMU’s defined list of progression and TNE partners are eligible to apply for the Global Partnerships Scholarship. Applications from students who have not studied at one of the defined list of progression and TNE partners are ineligible and will have their scholarship application rejected. Students must have been an actively registered student of an eligible partner within the last 2 years to be considered.
- Successful Global Partnerships Award winners who enrol onto their program at DMU are required to commit no more than 10hrs over the course of the first year of study to engaging in marketing activity directed by DMU.
Empowering Excellence Scholarship
- The Empowering Excellence Scholarship is available to new international students starting on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course of study at DMU Leicester and London. The value of the award is determined from time to time, may differ for DMU Leicester and DMU London, and will be advertised on the university website.
- To be eligible, an applicant must (i) have received an offer to study on a full-time course, starting in September 2026 or February 2027 (ii) meet the academic conditions shown on the Empowering Excellence Scholarship webpage, (iii) be a national of Canada, Chile, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand or USA and (iv) have paid a deposit by the deadline date stated on their unique award letter. The Empowering Excellence Scholarship is applied and deducted from outstanding fees once a deposit payment is received.
- Applicants to the MPharm program are ineligible for the Empowering Excellence Scholarship
- Successful award holders of the Empowering Excellence Scholarship who enter Level 4 will also be eligible for the Global Access Award recurrently in up to 2 subsequent years of study (i.e. Level 5 and 6).
- Successful Empowering Excellence Scholarship Award winners who enrol onto their program at DMU are required to commit no more than 10hrs over the course of the first year of study to engaging in marketing activity directed by DMU.
EU Access Scholarship
- The EU Access Scholarship will be given as tuition fee remission. Students who enter Level 4 and 5 of an undergraduate degree will be eligible to have the award applied recurrently in subsequent years of study (i.e. Level 5 and 6). The EU Access Scholarship will not cover more than 3 years of study unless the program of study is the MPharm or a MEng variant in which cases 4 years are applicable.

- MBA Global students are not eligible for the EU Access Scholarship
- To be eligible for the EU Access Scholarship students must:
- Be an EU national; and
- Be domiciled in one of the eligible EU countries listed below.
Eligible countries are:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
Norwegian, Swiss, Icelandic and Liechtensteiner nationals are not eligible for the EU Access scholarship.
