Intensive General English Course (IGEC)

This course improves your general English level, boosting confidence and creating the foundation for the study of academic English. There are two intakes in Autumn and Spring each academic year.

Students who successfully complete CELL’s English Language courses and achieve CEFR B2 in all components are guaranteed progression onto DMU UG and PG programmes providing that all other admissions criteria have been met as indicated in your offer letter.

Course length: 16 weeks plus a free revision week
Maximum class size: 20
Classroom hours per week: 20/21
Class times: Mon - Fri 10am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm
Self study period: 2 hours per day

Minimum age: You must be at least 18 years of age prior to commencing the course.

 

Aims of the course: To develop proficiency in English, improving each of the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as giving a general introduction to British life and culture. You will also be introduced to English study skills and start to develop the habits which will enable success in undergraduate or postgraduate study. By the end of the course you will be able to communicate effectively in English within everyday situations, read and write simple essays and be able to organise your studies and work on your own. You will reach an IELTS 4.0 level equivalent.
