Collections and Archives: How They Shape National and Local Narratives of the 1947 Partition event – 12 March

A thought‑provoking evening exploring how archives shape our understanding of the 1947 Partition is taking place at De Montfort University on Thursday 12 March 2026, 5:15–7:30 PM in Hugh Aston 0.08. The event brings together the British Library, the UK South Asian Digital Archive (UKSADA) and community partners to examine how national and local collections help preserve stories of displacement, resilience and identity. The event is free to attend, and shines a light on an important topic.

A panel discussion, hosted by Shushma Patel, will explore how communities, artists and young people engage with the history and memory of Partition, and how collections and archives enable new ways of telling these stories.

The schedule for the event is as follows:

  • 5.15pm- 5.35pm Arrival and Registration

  • 5.40pm-5.45pm Welcome and introduction

  • 5.45pm-7pm Main sessions, including panel discussion

  • 6.25pm-6.55pm in conversation

  • 7pm-7.30pm networking

If you would like to attend the event, you can book a place at the event here.
