BUCS Wednesday Week 5 Round-up

The DMUsport teams played 16 cup games in BUCS on Wednesday 6 November. We stayed close to Campus this week at the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre to catch the action.

Volleyball

At 1.30pm the Women’s Volleyball 1^st team played against Nottingham Trent’s 2^nd team.

To win a game of volleyball the team needs to win three out of five sets. The DMU Dragons started strongly in the first set and scored using aces and attacks, resulting in a starting score of 25 – 11.

The team remained competitive and went into the second set fighting. Half way through the score edged closer to 17 – 14 to DMU. At the end of the set #TeamDMU won with 25 points to 17.

The all-important third set looked fantastic for the DMU Dragons from the beginning. Half way through the score was 13 – 4 to DMU and spectators were getting excited. The Women’s Volleyball 1^st team came out on top, winning the third set with 25 – 13 and the match 3 – 0.

Netball

Later in the day was time to watch the Women’s Netball 3^rd team v Birmingham City’s 2^nd team at the QEII Leisure Centre.

The first points were gained within a minute of play and the first quarter was close with a score of 12 – 14 to Birmingham City (BCU). Going into the second quarter #TeamDMU were working on their defence as the opposing team had the most possession. Half way into the match the score was 15 to 23 to BCU.

The score edged closer in the third quarter and the DMU Netball team were on the attack, bringing the score to 27 – 35.

The final quarter was intense for both teams and Birmingham City won the game with 50 points and DMU finished with 33.
