De Montfort University is working with Arts Council England on #Talent25.

Every child who paints, sings and dances instinctively understands art’s power and joy and its ability to create experiences. However, not everyone gets to enjoy these opportunities. #Talent25 believes that all children should have the chance to study and enjoy art, dance, drama, music or other cultural activities throughout their childhood and their adult lives.

This first phase of #Talent25 will follow children babies born in Leicester over their early life and on their journey to starting school, seeing just what happens when they are given regular opportunities to get involved in a wide range of creative activities.

A team of academic researchers will follow their progress to provide, for the first time, a way of quantifying the impact of consistent and sustained engagement that creativity has on a child’s development. The project aims to nurture the creative spark that exists in all our children and help it to grow and flourish.

For parents

Are you the parent of a child aged 0-4 who lives in Leicester?

We want to work with parents and babies in specific communities across Leicester to develop more opportunities and encourage creative engagement from the very start. Together we will explore the potential ideas and co-create a programme that will inspire and enthuse babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers.

We want to work with people across Leicester to understand the kind of creative activities that are most enjoyable and engaging for you. If you take part in the project all activities will be free and travel to and from any venues will be supported.

If you would like to find out more please contact the #Talent25 team at creativetalent25@dmu.ac.uk and one of the team will get back in touch

For partners

Leicester has been chosen as a pilot area for #Talent25 because of its reputation as a diverse city with a younger than average population. It is home to the 2nd largest cluster of creative industries outside London and has a vibrant cultural scene.

It also has its challenges. Lack of money, opportunity and confidence can be barriers to preventing young people achieving their potential. Talent is everywhere, opportunity is not.

Through #Talent25 we hope to identify and remove those barriers, allowing individuals from 0-25 to have the opportunities they deserve.

If you are working in the provision of creative activities, early years engagement or are an active part of the community where you live, please get in touch.  You might be able to help #Talent25 achieve our ambitions and change the future for communities across Leicester.

If you would like to find out more please contact the #Talent25 team at creativetalent25@dmu.ac.uk and one of the team will get back in touch.

About the #Talent25 project

De Montfort University Leicester and the Arts Council England are working in partnership on a long term, action research programme known as #Talent25. This first phase focusses on children born in Leicester, and their creative engagement from 0-4 years old, following their journey from birth to school.

This project will work within communities across Leicester and deliver dedicated creative engagement programmes to specific groups within those communities, encouraging engagement and participation.

It is an action research project overseen by lead academics from DMU and supported via #DMUlocal in the communities.
