De Montfort University’s Cambodian campus hosted the signing of a landmark agreement, securing greater cooperation between the UK and Cambodia.
Dignitaries, including the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Hang Chuon Naron, and Baroness Winterton, the UK Government’s Minister for the Indo-Pacific, visited the university’s Phnom Penh campus for the occasion.
They were there to sign a Memorandum of Understanding promising greater cooperation in education between the UK and Cambodian governments.
The agreement is designed to strengthen education ties between the two countries, opening up new opportunities for collaboration between institutions and for students, educators and future leaders on both sides.
DMU Cambodia was specifically highlighted during the meeting as the first UK university campus to be established in Cambodia, underlining the university's pioneering role in the country's higher education landscape.
British Ambassador to Cambodia Dominic Williams, who was also at the event, spoke of education being central to the relationship between the two nations, while Baroness Winterton pointed to the talent and potential of Cambodia's people as the country's greatest asset.
Dr Naron, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister said he hoped the agreement would help open up further opportunities for Cambodian students to study in the UK.
