1,000 students get set for #DMUglobal New York visit

More than 1,000 students and staff from De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) are just days away from landing in New York as part of the second mass #DMUglobal visit to The Big Apple.

The trip will include students on 30 courses from right across the university, offering each a tailored experience which will bring to life the topics and skills covered in the classroom.

NY LANDING 3

The first batch of students will touch down in New York on Thursday and they will take part in a packed itinerary finishing with a day at the United Nations Headquarters for their final full day stateside next Tuesday.

Film Studies students will go to the Museum of the Moving Image, Advertising and Branding students will study the scale and spectacle of Times Square, Forensic Science students will be invited to understand the inner workings of the
New York Supreme Court and Engineering students will learn about industry-leading construction at the Skyscraper Museum and Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum.

Students will also get the opportunity to take part in some cultural activities, including ice skating in Central Park, visiting the Statue of Liberty, ascending to the iconic Top of the Rock and watching a live NBA basketball game.

For the first time, current DMU students will be joined on a #DMUglobal trip by alumni, who will visit companies such as IBM and Barclays, make community visits to places across the city, take part in cultural walking tours and attend a networking event to establish professional contacts and share their experiences with current students.

The week will culminate with hundreds of students attending the United Nations Headquarters to launch DMU’s involvement in the UN’s Together campaign, which aims to promote respect, safety and dignity for refugees and migrants.

DMU has written to universities around the world, inviting them to sign up to the campaign, which aims to share the benefits of DMU’s community work through projects like #DMUlocal, inspiring other institutions to carry out similar work in their hometowns.
