DMU Acapella help make company's Christmas campaign a cracker

De Montfort University (DMU) Leicester's Acapella group are the voices of an award-winning company's Christmas campaign.

Society chair Sabina Mack was asked to record a new take on a classic carol by spottydog communications, where she is spending her placement year.

The singers jumped at the chance - with the 12 Days of #ChristmasCheer video the result.

Business and Marketing student Sabina said: "It has been an incredible experience to unite my two worlds on a project that was so different to anything we had done before, and I have to thank our musical director Donald Linegar for all his hard work.

"Everyone was very excited to take part. It was a big opportunity for quite a small society and we have had such a positive reaction from family, friends and clients."

DMU Acapella recorded the vocals in the Vijay Patel Building on campus, while filming took place at the company's offices in Birmingham and Newtown Unthank, Leicester.

CEO Rachel Roberts said: "As a local business, it is really important for us to work with our community and DMU Acapella provided us with the perfect opportunity, as well as a chance to create a unique and engaging Christmas campaign."

Placement gives Owen the edge in graduate jobs market

Sabina is now in her fourth month with the PR, communications and social media agency, working as a PR, social media and communications assistant. Her role includes writing press releases, monitoring social media channels and creating social media content.

"I love it," she said. "It's a great team to work for and everyone is so friendly."

Sabina wanted industry experience to help her "stand out" in the jobs market, with the chance to do a placement year among the reasons she chose DMU. After spotting the opportunity on DMU's MyGateway, she received support from the #DMUworks faculty placement team with her application and interview preparation.

Working in Leicester is enabling Essex-born Sabina to stay connected with university life and continue her passion for singing and performing.

"Spottydog are really good at allowing me the flexibility to be part of DMU Acapella," she added.
