“We have such great links to India because of DMU Square Mile India, so this is another way of getting more people involved.

“Plus, everyone loves a good curry.”

The #DMUlocal programme was created by DMU to make a significant contribution to the social and economic development of Leicester and bring positive change across the city.

Through #DMUlocal, some of the hardest-to-reach groups are engaged in projects that focus on the three core areas of education, health and regeneration.

Nominations can be made for the following categories: Best Fine Dining Restaurant, Best New Restaurant, Best Pub Restaurant, Best Takeaway, Best Vegetarian Restaurant and Restaurant of the Year.

Mark Charlton, Head of Public Engagement at DMU, said: “We like to be part of city life and culture and great food is right at the heart of what is best about Leicester.

“Leicester is the country’s unsung curry capital and the vibrancy of the culinary scene in Leicester is something to be celebrated.

“My favourite curry is vegetable madras and, living in Leicester, I’m not short of choices of good places to find it.”

The nominees for the event, which has been running since November, close on Friday 10 February and the winners will be announced at an award ceremony held at Athena on April 23.
